Vermont-made app helps tourists explore Green Mountain State

WILLISTON Vt. - A new app for your smartphone or tablet will provide a new experience for those exploring Vermont.

It's called ViewBoost, a Vermont-made app aimed at benefiting both business owners and those visiting the Green Mountain State.

"We're launching the website today in hopes that we can get all the merchants that are tourism related represented on the application," said Doug Allbee, ViewBoost co-founder.

ViewBoost is an app and website that will help tourists find things to do in Vermont, both must-see attractions and spots off the beaten path.

"An opportunity to see what Vermont has to offer. Whether it's in the Northeast Kingdom, whether it's in Bennington, whether it's in Rutland, wherever they might want to go or want to see or just haven't heard of -- get in here and discover it," said Allbee.

Kiosks will be set up at rest areas around the state. These have the look and feel of this mobile app.

"We're working closely with state organizations, nonprofit organizations, just to make sure that all the information that we want to get to people traveling through and to our state is in their hands," said Allbee.

The ViewBoost app will be free for customers and available to download on the Apple App Store. Just like using a GPS app, the ViewBoost app will be pointing tourists visiting Vermont in the direction of things to do all across the Green Mountain State with just a touch of your smartphone or tablet.

"This is going to be the most state-of the-art application out there for tourists and travellers alike," said Allbee.

Businesses in Vermont can list their products or services on Viewboost for free. They can post pictures, detailed descriptions, and a ratings and reviews section of the location. Christopher Scott from Green Mountain Suites Hotel is excited about the app. He believes ViewBoost will boost the number of tourists stopping by his hotel.

"Because we're independent we don't have brand affiliation like the Hiltons and the Marriotts of the world do, we have to take advantage of these opportunities to communicate to travelers that are coming into the Vermont area that are looking for an authentic Vermont experience. We have to communicate that out to them and I think this is one of the best ways we can do that," said Scott.

ViewBoost will put Vermont on the map in a new, unique and advanced way. It will be available for download in the next couple of weeks.

The team who developed the ViewBoost app included students from Champlain College.
