Vernon's biggest taxpayer is leaving town, but it is still trying to help the local elementary school.
Vermont Yankee's parent company, Entergy, is giving the Vernon Elementary School a $50,000 grant.
The school's playground will get a facelift and students will have access to new interactive white boards and charging stations for laptops. The school's principal says the grant will go a long way toward providing students with direct access to technology.
Vermont Yankee plans to shut down operation for good by the end of the year.
