VFW post closed in Rutland

Posted: Updated:

RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - Officials are trying to figure out why the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Rutland, Vermont, is closed.

The Rutland Herald reports a sign on the door says Post 648 is closed "until further notice."

Russell Bibens, commander of the state VFW, said Thursday the post is on suspension for 90 days. He said the issue is "not for public dissemination."

Louisa Clarino, a member of the post's auxiliary, said Thursday she had heard nothing from the organization. She said the VFW's statewide convention is scheduled to take place June 7-9 in Rutland, and that the local post building typically figures into the event.

The post's tax forms indicate a decline in net revenue.
