TSA shows off weapons confiscated at BTV

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

The Transportation Security Administration on Friday showed off some of the weapons seized at the Burlington International Airport in hopes of educating passengers.

The assortment of knives, ammunition and other weaponry was taken from passengers just in the last few months.

TSA officials say even though strict screening has been in place since 9/11, many travelers seem unaware of the regulations or forget what they are carrying.

"The majority of times people will say they forgot they had something in their pocket, on their keychain, in their knapsacks, and they have no intention of doing any harm on the plane," said Lisa Farbstein of the TSA. "But just the same, you don't know about the person next to you. If they had access to that would they want to do harm?"

The TSA is showing off seized hardware at airports around the country in hopes of reminding passengers to be better prepared to go through security screenings.

The TSA now has an app called My TSA that travelers can put on their smartphones to answer any questions about what the can and can't bring on a plane.
