Graduating couple plans for their future

Posted: Updated:
NORTHFIELD, Vt. -

Graduation is a special time for students who worked for years to get their diploma.

"It's 4 years of hard work and it's very exciting that we're graduating, so I'm glad today's finally the day," says Jacqueline Derocher.

But this graduation ceremony is even more special for Norwich grads Jacqueline Derocher and Kyle Marks.

"Myself and my fiance are getting married tonight. We'll be getting married right at the chapel at Norwich University," says Derocher.

Marks and Derocher will be walking down the aisle at their wedding just hours after walking up to receive their college diplomas. But just as the two become newlyweds, they will be parting ways the very next day.

"She's going to aviation flight school which is in Fort Rucker, Alabama. So she'll be down there for 2 years, shortly after we leave here, after we graduate and the wedding. And then I'll be in Southern California," says Marks.

The happy couple say the distance won't be stopping their plans for the future.

"I'll be traveling back and forth as much as possible, and it'll be like going to school anyway so they'll give me a lot of time off so I can travel to see Kyle," says Derocher.

After she puts in her 2 years in Alabama, Derocher plans to get stationed in California - so the couple can begin their lives as husband and wife together.
