Suspicious device shows up at Burlington PD

Posted: Updated:

It's a sight you don't often see-- Burlington's own police department roped off with crime scene tape.

Authorities say someone spotted a suspicious object in an apartment complex in the city's New North End. Police determined it was a distractionary device, commonly called a flash bang. Rather than leaving it alone and calling police, the person delivered it to the police station. Investigators are not sure whether it had been detonated.

As a precaution, police set up a 50-foot safety perimeter and the state police bomb squad was called in to investigate the device.

Police are asking anyone who encounters a suspicious device not to touch it and to report it to police.
