Inspectors find $420K in fixes needed in Brattleboro building

Posted: Updated:

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - Vermont state fire inspectors have turned up about $420,000 worth of needed upgrades to the 130-year-old Brattleboro Municipal Center.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports that problems were turned up during a state inspection connected with a project to create new quarters for the town police and fire departments.

That project recently was put on hold, but the state Division of Fire Safety says it wants a plan from the town by the end of May on how it will address deficiencies at the existing Municipal Center.

The state inspection in late March found nine violations. Among the needed fixes: new fire-rated exit stair enclosures accessible from each floor of the building and extending the sprinkler system into every room.
