UVM graduation means road closures in Burlington

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

The University of Vermont's commencement ceremony will be held this weekend, and that will mean road closures in Burlington.

UVM's 213th commencement will take place Sunday, outside on the university green. Graduates will hear from Samantha Power, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and a Pulitzer Prize-winning author.

The College of Medicine graduation is Sunday in Ira Allen Chapel.

UVM officials say the following Burlington streets will be closed to accommodate the graduation ceremonies:

From Friday, May 16, at 7 p.m. through Sunday, May 18, at 8 p.m.:

  • University Place will be closed from Colchester Avenue to Main Street
  • South Prospect Street will be closed from College Street to the University Health Center entrance

On Sunday, May 18 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

  • South Prospect Street will be closed from Colchester Avenue to Main Street
  • College Street will be closed from South Prospect Street to South Williams Street

Parking:

Shuttle buses will run between ceremony sites and parking areas. You can find parking maps and many more details on the Commencement 2014 website -- http://www.uvm.edu/~cmncmnt/

UVM is encouraging guests to carpool when possible and take shuttles from hotels when provided. Parking on residential streets is prohibited.
