1M gallons of wastewater accidentally released in Lamoille County

MORRISTOWN, Vt. -

No swimming in parts of Lamoille County after an accidental wastewater release.

Morristown officials say the Hardwick Wastewater Treatment Facility discharged more than 1 million gallons of unchlorinated wastewater into the Lamoille River during the last 20 hours.

The leak was caused by a failure at the facility.

The wastewater is treated but not disinfected and contains fecal bacteria.

As a precaution, Morristown officials are urging people and their pets to avoid the Lamoille River until Monday.
