Sentencing for man who pleaded guilty to killing niece

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. - A convicted sex offender who killed his 12-year-old niece faces sentencing Tuesday.

48-year-old Michael Jacques is scheduled to appear in the U.S. District Court in Burlington on Tuesday. He will be sentenced to life without the chance of parole for the 2008 killing of Brooke Bennett. Last summer, the Randolph man pleaded guilty to kidnapping and killing her in exchange for no death penalty.

In exchange for the plea he will not face the death penalty. Brooke's family members are expected to make statements at the sentencing. Jennifer Reading is covering the case and will have reports in several broadcasts Tuesday on WCAX-TV.
