USDA grants help homeowners

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -

The Federal Government is trying to get the word out about help available to elderly homeowners.

The USDA Rural Development office says it has a loan and grant program -- to help people in a pinch -- if they need to do emergency home repairs.

In fact, some seniors could qualify to have up to $7,500 of the fixes totally paid for by the government.

"There's an application process -- you need to apply but if you live in Vermont, New Hampshire or Upstate New York and are over the age of 62, we do have a product out there if your boiler goes, your roof is leaking, you have problems with your foundation. It's a great program," says Ted Brady with the USDA.
