NORTH BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Railway is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and some people have been taking rides along part of the original route.
Over 700 people took part in a round trip around the Manchester area on Saturday.
The Bennington Banner reports the Vermont Railway started servicing over 125 miles of former Rutland Railway track from Burlington to White Creek, New York, in 1964. That included 4 ½ miles between North Bennington and the Bennington Station.
The station was closed in the 1970s, but was restored for public meetings.
The ride was part of a series of free rides being offered across the state this year.
