BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The president of Southern Vermont College says she's stepping down after eight years.
Karen Gross plans to move to the Washington area, where in 2012 she spent a year working as a senior policy adviser for the U.S. Department of Education. She is stepping down as of Oct. 1.
The Board of Trustees will announce a search firm and search committee within the next month. A new president is expected to be named this fall.
The college expanded enrollment, improved retention and increased diversity under Gross. It has expanded its health care programs including nursing, radiologic sciences and health care management.
Southern Vermont College is a liberal arts college in Bennington with about 500 students.
