School budget and board member elections took place in New York Tuesday.
Tuesday is the statewide Election Day for schools in New York. These voting days are always a chance for the community to weigh in on how well they think their schools are doing.
More than 20 school districts in the North Country will be voting on budgets, board candidates and new propositions. Educators in the North Country say schools in the area do a good job putting together budgets fair to both taxpayers and the schools.
"Here in the North Country, school budgets pass with about a 95 percent passing rate. I think there's no reason to believe that this time will be any different. Voters here always send a clear message that they support the work the schools are doing for our kids," said Dan Carlisto of the New York State United Teachers board of directors.
A special vote will be held in Saranac Lake schools which is a poll to see how the community feels about tax exemption for veterans.
