Vt. school track team escapes bus fire

HINESBURG, Vt. -

A school track team escaped a burning bus in Hinesburg Wednesday.

The bus was operated by Bet-Cha Transit carrying kids from Mount Abraham Union High School/Middle School in Bristol. It was on its way to Winooski.

Just South of Hinesburg village, the driver noticed a fire in the engine compartment. He quickly evacuated about 20 students on board before the whole bus went up in flames.

"Were out of any danger. Everyone was out of the bus really quick. That's what the bus driver needed to do. This is why we practice in our schools and why it is so important," said Assistant Chief Jim Silvia from the Hinesburg Fire Department.

No one was hurt.
