Turkish Cultural Center opens its doors in downtown Burlington

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

There's a new spot in Burlington to celebrate Turkish culture.

The Turkish Cultural Center and Peace Islands Institute opened its doors on College Street Wednesday afternoon.

The new space will be used for community events, cultural activities and language classes. Members say they've been meeting in homes since getting off the ground in 2011 and are excited to have a new space.

"It was a must for us. Our community was big enough to support it, so after searching for two years, we found this place, we liked it,” said Adem Aydin from the Cultural Center of Vermont.

The cultural center also hopes to be a hub for potential businesses. Staffers plan to work with the Turkish Chamber of Commerce to try to draw new investors to Vermont.
