MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected a case by a former Republican U.S. Senate candidate from Vermont who says President Barack Obama's name should not have been placed on the 2012 Vermont ballot because he says he is not a "natural-born citizen" of the United States.
H. Brooke Paige made the argument based on what he said were legal treatises and other writings from around the time of the U.S. Constitution. Obama is a U.S. citizen by virtue of his birth in Hawaii. His father was born in Kenya.
The Burlington Free Press reports Paige, who lost in the 2012 Republican primary, sought a court order barring the secretary of state from putting Obama's name on the ballot.
He lost in the Superior Court and the Vermont Supreme Court.
