Meeting on possible fixes for Exit 17

Posted: Updated:
COLCHESTER, Vt. - Changes are in the works for Exit 17 off Interstate 89.

Planners say the interchange in Colchester is plagued with problems. One major concern is that during busy periods cars exiting on the northbound ramp get backed up onto the interstate.

"We often have a situation where cars are cueing back onto the interstate and that is very, very unsafe because the sight distance isn't that long when you come upon that exit and so it is sometimes hard to see, particularly in the winter getting folks to stop before you get to the line of traffic," said Michele Boomhower of the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission.

A number of possible fixes are on the table, including expanding the interstate overpass and off-ramp capacity.

Tuesday night, planners will share possible solutions at a public meeting at the Colchester Meeting House starting at 6:30 p.m.
