CANAAN, N.H. -

$4.5 million are headed to Canaan to help improve drinking water.

The money is coming in grants and loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It will go toward a number of projects including a 150,000 gallon water storage tank and a new water filtration and treatment facility.

The funds will also pay to upgrade the existing water distribution system serving the people in Canaan and West Stewartstown, New Hampshire.

The upgrades will eliminate the use of springs in Canada, help remove magnesium and arsenic from the water and address issues with water discoloration.

The work is slated to be complete by the summer of 2016.
