Toyota donates hybrids to Vermont

MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Toyota is donating two plug-in hybrid cars to the state of Vermont.

The cars will be added to the state's fleet of vehicles.

Gov. Peter Shumlin, D-Vermont, said the donation comes at a time when the state is looking to reduce its carbon footprint by encouraging industry and consumers to look seriously at building charging stations and purchasing zero-emission vehicles.

The governor will not be using the hybrid, though. A spokesperson says the governor will continue to be driven around in Vermont in larger, gas-powered vehicles. His spokesperson says public safety determines what vehicles are used in the governor's security detail.
