Police: Woman found not guilty of trying to kill Rutland police officer

Posted: Updated:
RUTLAND, Vt. - A woman who was charged with attempting to kill a Rutland police officer is off the hook.

A jury acquitted 40-year-old Jennifer Berube in Rutland Criminal Court late Friday afternoon. The jury deliberated for less than 2 hours and delivered not guilty verdicts on an aggravated attempted murder charge and a lesser charge of attempted aggravated assault with serious bodily injury.

Berube was charged after police say she crept out of an interview room in December 2012 and approached Officer Damon Nguyen from behind with a knife.

Nguyen suffered a cut to the throat. Berube said she was only trying to scare Nguyen not kill him.
