SPRINGFIELD, Vt. -

Police say a Springfield man, high on cough syrup and bath salts tried to attack a police officer.

It happened at the Mobile Gas station on River Street in Springfield. Police responded late Friday night after a man showed signs of extreme intoxication. Police say while they tried to take 26-year-old Vincent Turcio into custody, he put up a fight. Turcio was eventually taken into custody and arrested for attempted assault of an officer. He was also charged with possession of dangerous weapons because police say he had a set of 3 throwing knives in a sheath strapped to his chest.

Turcio told police he had taken five bottles of cough syrup and bath salts earlier in the evening.
