Meet, State Records Fall in Essex

ESSEX, Vt. - The Essex Invitational isn't about team accomplishments.  It's about individual achievements.  Athletes from all four divisions converged at Essex High School with the top six in each event qualifying for the New England Regional Championships.  Here are some highlights from Saturday's meet.  For complete results, click the link to the right.

It was a big day for Burlington boys sprinters.  Makahil Abdinoor won the 100m and 200m.  Tobias Muellers set a new state record in the 400m with a time of 49.21 seconds.  Abdinoor, Muellers, Daniel Hart and Ahmed Noor combined to set a new state record in the 4 x 400m relay with a time of 3:25.88.

Mount Mansfield's Alec Eschholz, set a meet record in the 110m hurdles.  In the 300m hurdles, Eschholz crosses first in a new state record time of 38:34 seconds. That shatters the old mark set in 1987 by about .50.

Peoples Academy senior, Hannah Merriam won the 100m and broke her own D-III state record in the 200m with a time of 25.18.

After running for two different relay teams at last Sunday's Vermont City Marathon, CVU's Autumn Eastman won the 1500m and the 3000m. The 3000m time of 9:55.53 is a new meet record.

Kayla Gilding had another solid outing for South Burlington. She won the long jump with a top leap of 17-06.25. She also holds off triple jump winner, Colchester's Pearl Abiti, to take the 400m in 58:11.
