Child abuse prevention hearings scheduled

Posted: Updated:
VERMONT - Lawmakers are looking to hear from the public this week on ways the state can do a better job protecting children from abuse and neglect.

The Committee on Child Protection will hold a first round of meeting on Tuesday in Chester, Manchester and Rutland.  The Committee was established earlier this year in response to the tragic death of Dezirae Sheldon.  Since then, DCF has come under even more scrutiny following the alleged homicide of a Winooski toddler.  And the governor has called for plans to restructure the department and hire more staff.

On meetings Tuesday take place at 11 a.m. at the Chester Town Hall, then at 2:30 p.m. at the Park House Activity Room in Manchester Center and then at the Rutland High School Theatre at 6 p.m.
