'Ride for Children' draws a crowd

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - Over 200 Vermonters ditched their cars in favor of their bike on Sunday -- doing so for the 6th Annual Lund Ride for Children.

The ride raises money for children and families across the state. "Lund is a multi-service agency that provides treatment for mental health and substance abuse issues, education programs, family support services, and we're also Vermont's oldest and largest adoption agency," said Lund's Charlotte Blend.

Four races started in South Burlington and ventured around the region.  There were 55, 30, 16 and four mile rides.  All together Lund raised over $50,000 to support its mission--bringing hope to those who need it.

Many families rode together as a show of support for Lund's efforts to aid families struggling with poverty and addiction.

"Obviously I'm a mother, realizing how hard it is, I just think it's if you can be a good mom early on there is such a better chance for your children to have success," said Kim Brown, a participant in Sunday's ride.

After the race, participants could shop, eat, bid or play. And there were plenty of laughs to be had. Even as the party carried on, riders like Chris Berg remembered the cause they were supporting. "I feel pretty strongly. It's a Vermont organization with a lot of roots here. When we find things, we like to have them more locally-based. Money gets faster to the community that way," he said.
