Gas leak on SUNY Plattsburgh campus

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -

No injuries at a gas leak on SUNY Plattsburgh campus.

At around 8 a.m. campus police responded to a call about a natural gas line breaking during construction on campus. Emergency crews evacuated surrounding buildings on Rugar Street. The street was blocked off to protect the public from the potentially harmful and flammable gas.

New York State Electric and Gas fixed the leak, and the gas is back on.

"It affected several of our buildings on campus; fortunately most of the campus buildings were vacant because of summer break. But we did end up evacuating around 6 buildings," said Asst. Chief Jerry Lottie, from SUNY Plattsburgh Police.

Rugar Street is now open for traffic. The Plattsburgh City Fire Department says the affected area is now clear of all gas.
