FAHC seeks approval to buy 140 acres

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Vermont's largest hospital is seeking approval to buy nearly 140 acres in South Burlington to meet a growing demand for outpatient services.

Fletcher Allen Health Care already leases two buildings in the Mountain View Business Park off Hinesburg Road.

Now the hospital has submitted a certificate of need with state regulators to buy the property for $51 million.

The hospital says an analysis shows that purchasing the buildings and the adjoining land will pay for itself within 19 years.

"It should enable us to build the right patient care environment for the patient at particular locations," said Dave Keelty, director of facilities planning and development.

Fletcher Allen says it could take 3 to 6 months before a decision is made on its application.
