Shumlin launches new Vt. jobs website

WATERBURY, Vt. -

The Governor launches a new website to connect potential workers both in-state and out with employers.

The website is called greatjobsinvermont.com and it currently has just less than 5,000 openings in private sector positions listed.

Governor Peter Shumlin, D-Vermont, says the state has plenty of opportunities but says public perception remains pessimistic of the market given fallout from the great recession.

He says Vermont needs to keep young grads in state and draw more workers from beyond the Green Mountains.

"Our message is simple, there's no better place, as you just heard, to live, work, raise a family and we need more people than we have to do the work that we have. When you get an unemployment rate to 3.4 percent it'll go up and down we know that, but we need more workers," said Shumlin.

Employees from Keurig Green Mountain and other companies shared their success stories finding work in Vermont.

Colleges, professional organizations and the state's tourism department collaborated on the effort behind the new site.
