NH lawmakers approve hiking safety bill

CONCORD, N.H. -

The New Hampshire legislature approved a new hiking safety bill on Wednesday.

It allows the state to sell "Hike Safe" cards for $25 a person or $35 for a family. And if they have them people wouldn't have to repay the state for rescue costs if their rescue was due to negligence on their part. Hunters, fishermen and snowmobilers would also be eligible.

Money from selling those cards would fund search and rescue missions.
