BURLINGTON, Vt. - A former teacher convicted of having sex with a student has had another run-in with the law.

Giovanna Yaranga was issued a citation for trespassing after police say she entered a rental apartment she owns without her tenants permission. Yaranga, a former Spanish teacher at Burlington High School, pleaded guilty last fall to carrying on a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old boy. She received not jail time, but was placed on probation. This new trespassing charge could also result in a charge for violating her probation.

"You have to give notice of 48 hours to a tenant that you're going to be going into the apartment, whether it's to show the apartment or do repairs or whatever the case may be. She'd gone into the residence on several occasions over the course of a couple of weeks," said Officer Christopher Sweeney from the Burlington Police Department.

Yaranga avoided jail time after pleading guilty to sexual exploitation charges. Instead she was placed on probation. This new trespassing charge could also result in a charge for violating her probation.
