Road construction begins in Plattsburgh

Posted: Updated:

Construction begins on a main street through Plattsburgh.

Crews start work this week on repairing South Catherine Street, a road known for its pot holes and cracked pavement. The mile stretch of road from Perry Bridge to South Peru Street is now one-way. It will be a one-way road through the remainder of the project, expected to be complete this fall.

Several businesses operate where the construction is taking place and owners worry about it affecting their business.

"We're offering a 10 percent discount for anybody that wants to brave the road construction to come down here. It's not too bad right now, the one-way traffic seems to be flowing pretty easily down through here," said Jeff Prescott from Valley Vending.

New York State awarded $4.3 million to Plattsburgh for fixing up South Catherine Street.
