Off-roading competition in NY this weekend

Posted: Updated:

If you're looking for a chance to off-road this weekend and test out your skills, an event in New York is for you.

Mettowee Off Road Park in Whitehall, New York is having its gear jam event today and tomorrow. It opens at 9 a.m.

The park is designed for off-roading of all types, and they hold competitions the first weekend of each month. Each time, there's variety. People can come in with any type of vehicle and run them.

"We try to give them different things to do. They have side-by-side mud races, they have the tough truck track, they're going to be dragging large tractor tires, there's different things that the girls have come up with," says Vermont Jeepgirl Sue Miller-Norton. "Anyone can come as long as you don't mind getting dirty."

It costs $25 for a rig and driver, and $10 for spectators. If you win in your category, you get half the money. The other half goes toward a big prize pot for their last competition, which is the first week in November. For more information, visit their Facebook page.

Next Sunday on "The Weekend," Cat Viglienzoni and photographer Darin Boutet are taking us onto the trails in that park for Destination Recreation.
