Near-miss for Earth as big asteroid flies by

Posted: Updated:

We're going to have a near-miss with an asteroid Sunday.

This flying rock, nicknamed "The Beast" for its size, will pass within almost 800,000 miles of Earth.

"Near" is a relative term because that's three times farther away than the moon, but that is pretty close for an asteroid that size.

NASA estimates "The Beast" is up to 1,300 feet wide and speeding along at 31,000 miles per hour. But the space agency says there is "zero chance of an impact".

That's welcome news for those of us living here on Earth!
