LRUHS grad: 'You're never too old to learn'

Posted: Updated:
BARTON, Vt. - High school graduations took place across the region this weekend, including Lake Region Union High School in Barton.

Seventy-two graduates walked up to the stage to get their diploma Sunday -- among them --  91 year-old Maurice LaClair.
He dropped out of high school to work on the family farm and was drafted into the army to fight in World War II. A program coordinated between the American Legion, The Vermont Office of Veterans Affairs and the high school allows these aging veterans to get their diplomas.

"I've always worked hard -- work never hurt anyone.  Go forward, keep busy and remember -- you're never too old to learn,"  LaClair told his graduating class.

LaClair was on the school board that created Lake Region Union High School. Reporter Joe Carroll will have more on LaClair's extraordinary story coming up on this week's Super Seniors --  Thursday on the 6 p.m. news.
