Shumlin makes re-election bid official

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. - With the filing deadline for campaign 2014 just three days away, Governor Peter Shumlin filed his paperwork Monday.

The Democrat has said he will not campaign until Labor Day. Shumlin’s fundraising consultant, Erika Wolffing, said Monday in a written statement. “He looks forward to the opportunity to engage with Vermonters later this fall about the important policies he is pursuing to create jobs, expand opportunity and preserve Vermont's unrivaled quality of life.”

Vermont's Republican Party has not filled out a ticket of statewide candidates. Randy Brock announced Sunday that he will not run for governor. That leaves travel agency owner Scott Milne as the remaining Republican considering a bid for governor. He has yet to announce his intentions. Former third party candidate Emily Peyton is running as a Republican, but without the support of the party.
