Turtle lays eggs at Burlington's North Beach

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

There was a rare sight at Burlington's North Beach Monday.

A photographer took pictures of a turtle reportedly laying eggs in a nest in the sand.

A worker at the beach roped off the site. Burlington Parks and Recreation notified the local game warden and the folks at the Echo Aquarium. It's a Common Snapper. They are noted for being defensive while on land. People are warned to leave them alone. The life span of a Snapper can be 100 years. The turtle probably layed close to 100 eggs that will hatch in 80 days.
