BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man has been sentenced to 13 to 15 years in prison in a 2012 stabbing in Burlington.

Chaty Register pleaded guilty to aggravated assault with a weapon as a habitual offender in 2013.

The Burlington Free Press reports the 45-year-old Register stabbed 30-year-old David Bessette in the arm with a knife at a laundromat. Prosecutor Mary Morrissey said that followed an argument about Bessette's neck tattoo.

Register apologized to Bessette in court Monday, saying what happened that day was "a misunderstanding."

Bessette said he harbored no negative feelings against Register, but that he hoped Register finds peace and learns to understand his actions have consequences.

Register had been convicted several times in New York for second-degree robbery and second-degree assault and robbery.
