Solar project taking shape in Vermont town

Posted: Updated:

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - Solar panels are going up along Interstate 91 in Brattleboro, Vermont.

The goal is to get more than 8,000 of them in place and start generating electricity by the end of the summer to meet about 40 percent of the town's energy needs.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports developer Winstanley Enterprises received a certificate of public good for the project earlier this year.

Company Vice President Eric Nelson said it applied to Vermont's Sustainably Priced Energy Development, or SPEED, program, which guarantees developers will have a customer for the power produced.

The solar array is expected to provide enough energy for about 600 households.
