ELIZABETHTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - A short stretch of Route 9 in the Adirondacks has reopened after being closed for the past week by a crumbling culvert.
New York state Department of Transportation officials say the section of the road in the hamlet of New Russia in the Essex County town of Elizabethtown reopened around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
DOT officials closed the road last Thursday after a failing was discovered. Crews replaced the 100-year-old culvert with a plastic 48-inch-diameter pipe.
Detours around the closed section were set up during the road closure.
The agency says an average of 677 vehicles use that stretch of Route 9 daily.
