Brakes failed in ATV crash that killed young woman
TUNBRIDGE, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say a mechanical failure contributed to an all-terrain vehicle crash that killed a 20-year-old woman in Tunbridge.
Authorities say Jennifer Kinnarney of South Royalton was a passenger on an ATV driven by 23-year-old Anthony Potwin when the brakes failed as the ATV was going down a steep grade Tuesday afternoon. Potwin lost control of the ATV as it rapidly accelerated and he was unable to negotiate a turn.
The ATV went off the trail and hit several saplings. Both Kinnarney and Potwin were thrown from the vehicle. Police say Kinnarney hit a tree with caused severe trauma.
She was taken by helicopter to Dartmouth Medical Center, where she died from her injuries. Police say neither she nor Potwin were wearing helmets.
