BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Veterans Home administrator says it's facing a fine from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services following inspections in March and April.
The Bennington Banner reports Melissa Jackson told the Board of Trustees on Wednesday the penalty started off at $115,000, but may be reduced to about $35,000. She said the home is waiving its right to an appeal and has filed a waiver that would reduce the fine.
State inspectors visited the Bennington home on behalf of CMS, which last year threatened to cut funds because of deficiencies.
Jackson said the CMS cited areas to work on such as hiring only people with no history of abuse, following the quality of care plan, and making sure the nursing area is free from dangers that cause accidents.
