MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee has given unanimous approval to the nomination of a Vermont Supreme Court justice to become the state's newest federal judge.

Committee Chairman Sen. Patrick Leahy says the nomination of Judge Geoffrey Crawford will now head to the full Senate.

Crawford served as a Vermont Superior Court judge for more than a decade before he was appointed to the Supreme Court last year.

Crawford has an undergraduate degree from Yale and his law degree from Harvard.

The vacancy on the federal court in Vermont is coming about because U.S. District Court Judge William Sessions is planning to take senior status, a type of semi-retirement, on June 15.
