Gap stores move to top of Church Street

Posted: Updated:

A popular chain clothing store is moving to the Church Street Marketplace in Burlington.

Gap, Baby Gap, and Gap Kids will move out of Burlington's Town Center Mall and into the old Ann Taylor store at the top of Church Street. It will occupy two floors and 14,000 square feet. The chain will also bring in the store, Athleta.

The move means the Marketplace is 99 percent occupied. There's just one open space now and it's the most filled the storefront’s been since the early 2000s. The Marketplace says a mix of chain and specialty shops is the recipe for success.

"Because they are a destination, they come to Church Street to shop at either Gap or one of the other nationals and as they do, they discover some of the local stores that really are the majority on the Marketplace. We see it as a very complimentary situation," said Becky Cassidy from the Church Street Marketplace.

The Gap stores are expected to be in the new space sometime this fall.
