Making a good first impression

Posted: Updated:
RUTLAND, Vt. -

A city gateway in Rutland got a makeover this week.

There are now 77 new crab apple trees planted along West Street. The trees were purchased by Rutland Blooms in collaboration with Green Mountain Power, Rutland Regional Medical Center and other area businesses. They were planted by volunteers. The Rutland City Forester says the location is important because it is often the first thing people see when they drive into Rutland.

"Hopefully it will give newcomers a good first impression and for the people that live here, it should be an annual display of some pretty flowers," said Dave Schneider, Rutland City Forester.

Schneider added that the trees are upgrading an area that had been neglected for decades.
