COLEBROOK, N.H. (AP) - The former treasurer of a village fire precinct has been accused of embezzling nearly $30,000 from the department's account at a bank where she worked in New Hampshire.
Doreen "Dodie" Smith of Lancaster also was charged with embezzling several thousand dollars from the Colebrook Booster Club, of which she also was treasurer.
The 51-year-old Smith was treasurer of the Colebrook Village Fire Precinct. The Caledonian Record reports she had worked for 21 years at First Colebrook Bank. Police said she would allegedly use bank checks made out to Smith or to cash, then write the fire department account information on the check, during a five-year period.
Smith is scheduled for a probable cause hearing July 22 in Lancaster District court. It wasn't immediately known if she had a lawyer.
