Burlington school district continues search for superintendent

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Burlington school district continues its hunt for a new superintendent.

The question now is when that new leader will come. Jeanne Collins will step down as superintendent on June 30. The chair of the Burlington school board said he wanted a new superintendent in place by July 1, but now he is backing off that statement.

"That was the goal. I'm not sure that it will be in place by July 1. It is certainly my hope and I think there is a possibility that there could be interviews done very soon but at this point, I can't promise July 1. The senior directors will be running or serving together as the acting superintendent to make sure the daily things get done," said Patrick Halladay, Burlington school board chairman.

He would not say how long the district could run this way, only saying he hopes to move quickly.
