MVUHS school budget voted on for third time

Posted: Updated:

Voters in Franklin, Highgate and Swanton went to the polls Tuesday for the third time.

They were voting on the school budget for Missisquoi Valley Union High School. The budget is more than $15 million but about $200,000 less than the original budget. The turnout in Swanton has been light.

"The turnout has been low, we are estimating probably 14 to 15 percent of our voters on the checklist, which is about 3,714," said Catherine Fournier, Swanton town clerk.

"I think it's time now to step up to vote, the money needed to fund our schools," said Larry Trombley, Swanton voter.

The polls close at 7 p.m. The votes of the three towns are co-mingled and counted as one. We will have results of the vote at 11 p.m.
