BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - A Brattleboro police captain will serve as interim chief while officials in the southeastern Vermont community search for a permanent replacement for retiring Chief Gene Wrinn.
Capt. Michael Fitzgerald will become acting chief at the end of next week.
Interim Town Manager Patrick Moreland says the town will be in good hands.
Wrinn announced earlier this month he planned to retire June 27 after 28 years on the job.
The Brattleboro Reformer reports Moreland plans to advertise for a permanent replacement on national police association web sites and accept applications for about a month. He hopes to name a new chief by the end of the month.
