7 arrested in South Burlington prostitution sting

Posted: Updated:
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Police in South Burlington say they arrested seven men in an undercover prostitution sting.

Investigators say they placed an ad on the online site "Back Page," known to be used by prostitutes. The ad was up for six hours, and during that time, police say they got 40 responses. Seven of the people who responded showed up at a hotel to meet the undercover officer; they were arrested for prohibited acts.

But police say it's the ripple effect of this type of activity that is concerning.

"A lot of these girls are caught in human trafficking, the drugs that come it. A lot of the girls get raped, attacked. The johns have been getting ripped off, getting robbed, hotel break-ins into other rooms-- it just keeps expanding," South Burlington Police Det. Ron Bliss said.

Police say the arrests took place at the Anchorage Inn, which volunteered to help with the investigation.
