MILTON, Vt. - Two campers in Milton are recovering after they claim they say they were mauled by a bear. But so far police say they can't find any evidence to substantiate claims the animal was ever there.

Police say Ladonna Merriman, 44, and Lucas Gingras, 28, were taken to the hospital Wednesday.  Merriman has serious injuries and Gingras' injuries were minor.

Police say Gingras told them a bear with two cubs attacked the camp, mauled them and in the chaos, a camp stove got knocked over, setting the cabin ablaze.

The cabin is a total loss.
